I love summer nights. Sitting on the patio for hours as the sun sets. For this week’s date night, we decided to take it outside of the house and created a beautiful summer picnic just up the hill from our house.
Timo and I try to have some version of date night every week. This usually means putting on a record and cooking dinner together. Sometimes we watch a movie but mostly we just sit and talk.
Last week we decided to create a beautiful summer picnic and take date night outside. We cooked and prepared everything at home and then packed it up and walked to the top of our hill.
How we created a beautiful summer picnic
We kept it simple for the picnic so we did not have to carry too much stuff up the hill. For dinner, we made our own chips with fennel salt and pork tenderloin sandwiches from this book. Timo whipped up a quick drink and we brought ice cubes in our thermoses. For dessert, I just made some simple chocolate chip cookies.
We then packed a backpack, brought a blanket so sit on and one to cuddle in and our Marshall Bluetooth speaker and hiked up the hill.
We found a quiet spot amongst a cherry orchard and put everything out listening to this playlist I had created on Spotify.
Then we just ate and talked, nibbled on our drinks and watched the clouds and the wind moving through the trees.
It was such a beautiful, quiet and relaxing evening just outside our house.
I believe sometimes those simple things can be so meaningful and easy to do. I just think sometimes we get into our heads (I know I do) and think this is too much effort or too time consuming. I just want to encourage you to create moments like a beautiful summer picnic to get outside, live in the moment and create some memories with friends.
